Sumbe's homebred Cashanda takes the Prix Chaillot

CASHANDA (FR) (f, 3, Zoffany {Ire}--Caskelena {Ire}, by Galileo {Ire}), sent off the 39-10 second favourite, enjoyed the perfect tow early under cover behind the leader. Working her way to the front with 300 metres remaining, the homebred stayed on strongly to score by 1 1/4 lengths from Jannah Pearl (Fr) (Galileo {Ire}). "Andre [Fabre] has always thought a lot of her--she was entered for a group 1 on Arc day [the Prix Marcel Boussac], but she had a few problems last year, a setback, so we had to be patient," owner-breeder Nurlan Bizakov explained. "Hopefully our patience will pay some dividends later on. Unfortunately we lost her dam, so hopefully she will keep the line going." The winner is the last known foal out of the aforementioned Caskelena, a full-sister to the G3 Lingfield Derby Trial winner and G1 Grand Prix de Paris and G1 Gold Cup runner-up Age Of Aquarius (Ire). Also a half to Dyhim Diamond's G1 Prix Jean Prat- winning sire Turtle Bowl (Ire) and the G2 Prix d'Astarte scorer and G3 Prix Cleopatre winner and GI Flower Bowl Invitational runner-up Turtle Bow (Fr) (Turtle Island {Ire}), she was responsible for Zoffany's listed-placed Canagat (GB).
